Kate's jewellery designs incorporate fine silver, copper, bronze, sterling silver, gold, enamel and aluminium. Kate has also recently begun to experiment with found objects. "I strive to create thought provoking and intriguing jewellery". Kate uses fine silver, copper and bronze metal clays; relatively new materials which allow an unstructured process closer to sculpting than traditional metal smithing.
When creating her jewellery, each piece evolves, often beginning with just a theme or idea. "I do not believe that we make mistakes; we just take an alternate route". Because Kate's work is in a clay medium, it is shaped and textured, none of her work is cast, so each piece is unique even when a texture is repeated no two are ever the same.
